Half Marathon

Last November I decided I needed to up my workouts and start jogging. When I first started jogging I could barely run a 1/2 mile, I worked myself up to 2 - 3 miles this last spring. Well in May I had a crazy idea that I should run a 1/2 marathon. I googled "half marathons for beginners" to see what kind of training it would take to accomplish this. So I started a 10 week training program that took me up to August 1st, when I ran in the YMCA Cats Incredible 1/2 Marathon. I had two goals when I started. The first one was to finish, and the second one was to not finish last. Well I accomplished both. I ran the race in 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 16 seconds. I was happy with that time, I was thinking it might take me more like 2 hours and 20 -25 minutes. There were 76 runners and I finished 68th, so I was right there at the end of the pack, but didn't finish "last"! A lot of people say once you do a 1/2 marathon that you will want to go on and do a full marathon....well I am not one of those people, I really do not have any desire to do a full marathon. I would do another 1/2 marathon and maybe some 5 and 10K's would be fun, but we will see.

Steve and the kids were there at the finish line to congratulate me.

Grandma Connie/Mom's 75th Birthday Celebration

We celebrated Grandma's 75th birthday on Friday, July 3rd. All 6 kids, 8 of 13 grandchildren, 6 great granchildren, spouses and significant others all joined in for the celebration. We started the day at our house with lunch, we than all headed to King's Walk for a golf scramble (which by the way my team won....7 under!!!!), and than back to the Salyer's for a barbecue, visiting, and a little croquet. I believe great fun was had by all.

The whole gang, minus Josh and Lindsay's little guy Stetsen, who is in the next picture. He was there for lunch, but left to be with his Grandma and Grandpa the rest of the day.

Team #1...but not first place! Team #1 was in first place after nine holes, but faded fast on the back nine. They were in second place until on the 18th hole, Grandpa made a HUGE putt, to put team #1 into 3rd place...sorry guys, better luck next year!

Team # 2....took 1st place with a huge 7 under par. Team #2 had the youngest and the oldest players of all of the golfers. There was a little controversary over our win....with on going discussion about it late into the night. But of course we think we won fair and square!

Team #3 took 2nd place with a huge putt by Grandpa on the 18th hole to edge out team #1.

Well what can I say about Team #4. Team #4 quit counting their strokes after I believe the first nine, I guess you would have to say they took last place, but probably had the most fun on the course. I am thinking playing the song Top Gun from your phone when your teeing off, falling over when your putting your tee in the ground, may have something to do with last place. But you had fun and that is what counts.

Team #5 took 4th place. They had the youngest supporter on their team with Rylan.

Brenda was our official picture taker....thanks Brenda you did a great job!
